We are seeking to appoint a Subject External Examiner for our new Midwifery Masters programmes. These innovative new programmes are based within the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Health. We are introducing a full time 3-year MSc Midwifery (Pre-registration) programme in September 2021 and will commence a full time 2-year MSc Midwifery (Shortened) for applicants who are already registered adult nurses in September 2022. On successful completion these students will be eligible to register as Midwives with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (RM). This position does require the external examiner to be a Midwife, registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council, and have a recognised teaching qualification.
The appointment will be until the 31 December 2025 and the commitment required is as follows:
- To review a range of coursework throughout the year
- To attend an assessment panel per year and the submission of an annual external examiner report.
- To engage in communication with the programme team
- To carry out at least one interim engagement per year (which may take the form of a ‘virtual’ visit by video conference (e.g. Zoom) in recognition of the logistical difficulties presented by Plymouth’s geographical location) and at least one face to face visit during the term of office to obtain feedback from staff and students on assessment in practice and to strengthen their engagement with the ongoing teaching and learning process.
All appointments are subject to the candidate meeting the University’s criteria for appointment. If you would like to be considered for this role, please submit a CV by email to firstname.lastname@example.org by 18 July 2021 or for further information about the role email: Heather Hopper at Heather.email@example.com (Lead Midwife for Education) or Rachel Stanyer at firstname.lastname@example.org (Programme Lead)
