The Department of Nursing and Community Health at Glasgow Caledonian University is seeking a replacement external examiner and would welcome expressions of interest from individuals committed to developing quality teaching, learning and assessment. We are interested in receiving applications from those who have an interest and expertise in the field of adult nursing, a background in community is desirable but not essential. Applications are invited from individuals who have experience of managing and assessing students on similar programmes. Although prior external examiner experience is welcome, it is not a prerequisite for the post. As an External Examiner for this programme you will be responsible for the external moderation of modules at SHE Level 3 / SCQF Level 9 and SHE Level 4 / SCQF Level 10. The role of the External Examiner is to assure the quality of awards with respect to national standards. Key duties include:
  • To review a range of coursework throughout the year
  • To attend at least one assessment board per year and submit an annual external examiner report
  • Participation in programme reapproval events
The university offers support for newly appointed external assessors by offering a programme of induction and via the programme lead. Tenure of appointments is for a period of four years. About the role Partnering alongside our NMC Services Manager, this role will support the set up, launch and ongoing delivery of QAA’s quality assurance service for the NMC. This role is external facing and stakeholder focused and will lead contact with the NMC and providers offering, or seeking to offer, approved programmes. The role will support the launch of services and stakeholder relationships ensuring continuity of service as the new service provider. As this is a new role, the duties and responsibilities are expected to evolve as the work moves from mobilisation to embedded business. This role will be involved in this. About you You are a current registrant on the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register and have a strong understanding of the NMC’s Standards for Education and Training and how they are applied in higher education (including with practice learning partners). Your background in the healthcare sector, combined with your knowledge of health education standards, positions you as an expert in this field. Additionally, your experience within the higher education sector has provided you with a deep understanding of its unique challenges and opportunities. You are a highly skilled professional with a proven track record in managing customer and stakeholder relationships, ensuring clear and effective communication at all levels. 2x External Examiners for PGDip SCPHN Health Visiting and Occupational Health Nursing

Dear Colleagues, The Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society at the University of Chester is seeking two External Examiners to support the PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Programmes (Health Visiting and Occupational Health Nursing pathways). The programmes are due to be approved by the NMC in October with a start date of January 2025 the programmes include apprenticeships, self-funding and traditional funding routes. The modules to be examined will include generic and field specific modules across the SCPHN and SPQ provision at Level 7. It is essential that post holders can demonstrate previous experience teaching and assessing in HE within Specialist Community Public Health Programmes (Health Visiting and Occupational Health Nursing) ideally with knowledge of both apprenticeship and traditional routes. The External Examiner must be a registered NMC SCPHN Health Visiting or Occupational Health Nursing and have a Masters level (or above) qualification). The appointment will be for a period of four years, starting in September 2024. The University runs an Induction Day in September to support both new and experienced examiners. As an external examiner your duties would include:
  • External moderation of a range of assessments
  • Engaging with assessment of practice to include visiting practice areas as required (where appropriate)
  • Submission of an annual report to the Head of Academic Quality and Standards.
  • Attendance at Assessment Boards
  • Advising on any proposed module modifications / new modules
