The University of Northampton is looking for an External Examiner for MA Social Work.

The MA in Social Work programme at the University of Northampton is seeking an External Examiner to commence the role for the 2024 academic year. The MA Social Work programme comprises theoretical, academic and practice learning elements in a full-time two-year package. Successful completion leads to a professional and academic award which entitles students to register as a qualified social worker.

We are seeking an academic with suitable experience, you must be a qualified and registered social worker with a knowledge and experience of the professional standards for social work. The appointees would be expected to moderate a range of modules. External Examiners are required to attend the assessment boards and to be available to review examples of students’ assessment material electronically at points throughout the year.

Previous experience as an external examiner is preferred but not essential, as support and mentoring can be provided. We do seek someone who can provide developmental feedback to the academic team, comment on the quality of feedback given to students, offer support in reviewing the programme and commit to the overarching ‘critical friend’ element of the External Examiner role.

The appointment will be for the four academic years 2024 to 2027, starting 1 October 2024.

The University of Northampton will not appoint an External Examiner from any of our approved partnerships. This information will be checked upon application.
