YES? – then read on: Wrexham Glyndwr University (WGU) is delighted to be in a position to advertise for a technician in Clinical Skills and Simulated Practice within the Faculty of Social and Life Sciences’ Nursing and Allied Health Professions department.
This post has arisen following a commissioning process conducted by Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW). HEIW have taken the opportunity in partnership with stakeholders, to change the “shape” of education provision in Wales to best meet the needs of all Health Boards and Trusts and develop a cutting edge innovative contract to put Wales at the forefront of Health Professional education. As a result of this WGU have been awarded provision of an expanded portfolio of Nursing (Adult, Mental Health and Child fields) and certain Allied Health Professions (AHPs) that have not been delivered in North Wales before.
The Clinical Skills and Simulated Practice Technician will work closely with the Professional Leads for Nursing and Allied Health professions and the Senior Lecturer for Simulation and Digitalisation and other Faculty members. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of the Clinical Skills Suite in relation to setting up for sessions, maintaining equipment and assisting in the delivery, evaluation, monitoring and quality control of teaching and learning provision. The role holder will ensure that resources are appropriately utilised within relevant simulation areas and provide an efficient service, ensuring that all equipment and resources are available, and the request is appropriate, technical support can be offered and the booking is viable. They will train staff and students in the appropriate use of equipment and relevant health and safety processes and procedures.
They will assist academic staff in the preparation of teaching and learning materials. Successful candidates will be committed to ensuring accessible routes into professional programmes are in place in support of the development of a future workforce who are truly representative of the people of Wales. Our innovative “introduction to the profession” short courses are an example of such accessibility.
WGU’s Active Learning Framework (ALF) will form the basis of all curriculum developments. This innovative learning blend helps to ensure that students access their teaching and learning in the ways that are best suited to certain activities. Some aspects, such as clinical skills, are delivered face-to-face, with others delivered online. The online elements are sometimes ‘live’ (synchronous) and sometimes available to be studied flexibly around other commitments (asynchronous).
Successful candidates will build upon existing strong partnerships to work closely with HEIW, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), Powys Teaching Health Board, Welsh Ambulance Service Trust (WAST) and other stakeholders to ensure that the curriculum is closely aligned to service needs.
