Salary Range:

The Hull York Medical School (HYMS) is seeking to recruit an outstanding colleague to join the Cancer Imaging theme within our recently established Biomedical Institute for Multimorbidity (BIM), an ambitious new venture seeking to use existing strengths in biomedical sciences within HYMS to make major discoveries in the complex interactions that occur on a whole-body level in health and disease. This is an exciting opportunity to be a member of the new Institute; the appointee will benefit from links with existing researchers and close clinical links with colleagues in Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Within the Cancer Imaging theme, the Positron Emission Tomography Research Centre (PETRC) is a cornerstone of the Hull Molecular Imaging Centre (HuMIC), a 10 year £15 million initiative that brings together University and NHS research and clinical facilities to improve access to the best diagnostic care for cancer patients (https://www.hull.ac.uk/work-with-us/research/groups/hull-molecular-imaging-centre). While our primary therapeutic research area is oncology, we are also active in immunology, drug development, respiratory medicine, gastro-enterology, cancer screening and theranostics.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and ambitious researcher with experience of in vitro and in vivo development and testing of radiopharmaceuticals. Potential areas include the identification of novel biological targets for cancer imaging and therapy and/or utilizing imaging to elucidate mechanisms of action for new therapies. The role will have the potential for development of novel cancer theranostics (utilizing alpha- or beta-emitting isotopes) to complement research into molecular imaging.

The postholder will join a dynamic team of research scientists and clinicians that are focused on molecular imaging and will play a key role in implementing the development and characterisation of new molecular imaging probes for translation of PET radiopharmaceuticals into the clinic.

You will be expected to lead and contribute to the development and delivery of cutting-edge research studies, generating external income and REF-returnable outputs. You will also be expected to support commercial interactions and undertake high quality knowledge exchange. While the focus of this position will be research, you will also be expected to significantly contribute to the leadership and delivery of excellent teaching within our undergraduate and taught Master’s degree programmes. In return, you will be joining an ambitious and exciting new research institute with a clear intention to deliver transformative research.

We will appoint a candidate who aligns to our values:

Everyone Counts: We promote a culture of diversity, respect and aspiration, and empower everyone to realise their potential.

Pursuing Excellence: We combine a pioneering approach with innovative methods to drive excellence in all we do.

Socially Responsible: We are dedicated to public service and to improving lives within our communities.

Collaborative: We work in partnership, recognising the strengths of others.

We particularly welcome applications from female candidates, and candidates who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, who are under-represented in the University of Hull and within the academic staff group in the School.

To discuss this role informally, please contact Professor Tim Palmer (tim.palmer@hyms.ac.uk).
