Applications are invited for a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy. If you are an experienced HCPC registered Occupational Therapist, are enthusiastic about enhancing Occupational Therapy higher education and teaching our students, we would be pleased to hear from you. We have developed an exciting portfolio of courses (including an apprenticeship programme based delivered in the south east of England).
You will join an ambitious academic team with shared research and professional interests in occupational justice, therapists’ entrepreneurship, improvement and implementation within the healthcare setting, and in mental health and wellbeing. Most of the time you will teach our Occupational Therapy students, however interprofessional education is a key part of our learning and teaching approach and you will teach other students on health, social care and public health programmes.
As a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, you will use your previous teaching, or high-quality practice experience, as an Occupational Therapist to deliver specialist and generalist knowledge and skills to students at all HE levels. You will use different learning and teaching methods, sensitive to different cultures and students’ ways of learning. Using contemporary evidence, you will prepare students for future clinical practice which supports embedding research into practice for patient benefit. Your level of appointment will be in line with your previous experience and the University will offer you career development opportunities.
You also work within an established and friendly group of academic and professional staff, and will contribute to enhancing the work and the reputation of the School as a whole, collaborating interprofessionally and effectively with colleagues in the Faculty, University and externally as appropriate. You will undertake scholarly activity, maintain or work towards being research active and contribute to the School’s enterprise and innovation within the UK and internationally. The nature of this contribution will vary according to your experience and your direction of work will be required to fit with the School’s strategic plans. We would particularly welcome applicants from those with an interest in innovation and entrepreneurship or occupational science / justice.
You will use your knowledge of best practice in your profession and education methods, combined with excellent communication skills to support students in their learning to become safe, autonomous, competent Occupational Therapists. You will work closely with all stakeholders to co-produce teaching materials to create an inclusive environment for students. You will continue your own personal and professional development as an academic using the evidence base and research to inform teaching.
