Do you want to: Be involved in shaping Nursing and Allied Health Education in Wales? Translate your excellence in clinical practice into learning and teaching that inspires? Support applicants from diverse backgrounds to train as a Nurse or Allied Health Professional? YES? – then read on: Wrexham Glyndwr University (WGU) is delighted to be in a position to advertise for several Nursing and Allied Health Professions (AHP) Senior Lecturer and Lecturer posts and two Principal Lecturer (Professional Leads), within the Faculty of Social and Life Sciences’ Nursing and Allied Health Professions department.
These posts have arisen following a commissioning process conducted by Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW). HEIW have taken the opportunity in partnership with stakeholders, to change the “shape” of education provision in Wales to best meet the needs of all Health Boards and Trusts and develop a cutting edge innovative contract to put Wales at the forefront of Health Professional education. As a result of this WGU have been awarded provision of certain AHPs that have not been delivered in North Wales before as well as an expanded portfolio of Nursing (Adult, Mental Health and Child fields).
These programmes offer exciting opportunities to contribute to delivery of HEIW commissioned programmes. Applicants must have current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) / Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration relevant to the role and membership of the relevant professional body. Additionally, experience in relevant clinical areas and experience of facilitating learning and developing new initiatives will be necessary. Successful candidates will be committed to ensuring accessible routes into professional programmes are in place in support of the development of a future workforce who are truly representative of the people of Wales. Our innovative “introduction to the profession” short courses are an example of such accessibility. WGU’s Active Learning Framework (ALF) will form the basis of all curriculum developments. This innovative learning blend helps to ensure that students access their teaching and learning in the ways that are best suited to certain activities.
Some aspects, such as clinical skills, are delivered face-to-face, with others delivered online. The online elements are sometimes ‘live’ (synchronous) and sometimes available to be studied flexibly around other commitments (asynchronous). Successful candidates will build upon existing strong partnerships to work closely with HEIW, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), Powys Teaching Health Board, Welsh Ambulance Service Trust (WAST) and other stakeholders to ensure that the curriculum is closely aligned to service needs.
There is a strong focus on inter-professional education and this takes place with shared learning outcomes throughout our professional health programmes (including our already highly regarded Occupational Therapy (No.1 in Wales*), Physiotherapy and Adult Nursing programmes (No.1 in Wales for Nursing), as well as in some cases with other Higher Education (HE) partners.
