About the role
Following the success and increased demand of our unique online distance learning Operating Department Practice (ODP) degree programme, the University of Derby are looking for innovative individuals to join their talented lecturing team to help push the boundaries of education delivery. The programme is delivered as an apprenticeship, with learners gaining academic skills and knowledge through established online teaching delivery. Whilst primarily delivered online, learners experience some face to face teaching through residential skills weeks in our modern simulation facilities, with learners then applying this taught underpinning knowledge through working clinically in their workplace in order to become a competent and resilient practitioner.
You will be an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) or Nurse with current registration with HCPC or NMC and you will have extensive clinical experience and knowledge of working within anaesthetic, scrub and/ or recovery in the perioperative environment. You will hold a relevant degree or equivalent in a health related discipline, have evidence of post registration professional development and be able to evidence experience of teaching or mentoring. Previous experience of teaching and working in a higher education environment would be beneficial but not essential however applicant with no formal teaching qualification will be expected to work towards one. Achievement of a Masters/ Level 7 qualification / PhD would be preferred however applicants who do not possess these qualifications and who would be willing to work towards them will be considered for the role.
Effective teamwork and excellent communication skills are essential and you will be innovative and creative in sharing your knowledge and experience in order to provide high quality healthcare education. You will understand the importance of student experience and have the ability and drive to improve excellence in teaching and student experience by delivering transformative and innovative learning experiences to our students.
Whilst the role is based at our Kedleston Road Campus in Derby, the unique online delivery method of the programme allows for flexibility in the role, allowing significant opportunities for working from home, with attendance at the university dictated by demands of the role.
