We are seeking a Lecturer in Midwifery to join a new team constituted to develop and deliver midwifery education in the School of Nursing, Institute of Clinical Sciences, College of Medical and Dental Sciences. Birmingham has a long history of providing graduate nursing programmes, consistently ranked in the top 10 of UK providers and enjoying a period of sustained growth. We envisage midwifery will become an important part of the College’s multidisciplinary health professional educational portfolio which includes medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy and biomedical sciences. Our midwifery programme will be delivered in partnership with our internationally renowned NHS trusts, and health and social care providers across Birmingham and Solihull. The programme will be enriched by the leading edge research undertaken at the University of Birmingham relating to global maternal health, evidence based maternity care and risk, abuse and violence.

The post holder will work closely with the Lead Midwife for Education (LME) on the development and implementation of a new MSc Midwifery programme (for registered nurses). In this role you will be involved in growing our pre-registration midwifery provision, by contributing to the development of an innovative new blended learning curriculum aligned with the NMC Future Midwife standards for delivery of research informed midwifery education and in the future a Degree Apprenticeship in Midwifery. Your role will include teaching and supporting students in academic and clinical environments, integrating digitally enhanced learning, and working closely with our practice partners to ensure an exceptional student experience.

We would expect the post holder to contribute to midwifery scholarship and/or research. The post holder will be accountable to the Head of School of Nursing and will report to the Lead Midwife for Education and work closely with the Head of Education, Head of Postgraduate Programmes and Programme Directors for the undergraduate (BNurs/MNurs) and Master of Nursing programmes.
