The post of Head of Subject for Sport at Birmingham Newman University is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving, innovative and vibrant University that values its staff and puts students at the heart.
The post offers a unique chance to lead and manage an experienced and respected team ensuring the subject of sport at the University secures a positive national and international reputation. The subject is part of the Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies. As the Head of Subject you will work with the Associate Dean (Arts, Humanities and Human Sciences) and the Executive Dean of Faculty to build on and progress the considerable work that the University has already done to enhance and grow programmes in sport as well as develop the portfolio.
Your experience of academic leadership and vision will enable the team to meet the University’s key performance indicators set out in its strategic plan, delivering growth, an excellent student experience and activating meaningful partnerships with employers and wider stakeholders.
You will work with the subject team, senior leadership team of the Faculty and the University to enhance current provision and build on the developments that have been implemented as part of the comprehensive portfolio review and substantially increase the student population in the subject area. This will involve broadening the range of provision, including the development of sustainable postgraduate, undergraduate programmes as well as apprenticeships and other relevant qualifications that are attractive to the market to meet current and future needs.
The Faculty and the University are committed to increasing meaningful partnerships. As the Head of Subject you will lead the subject team to develop more strategic relationships with relevant employers and other organisations to support growth, student recruitment and the student experience as well as enhancing the profile of the University.
You will work with the Associate Dean to ensure the efficient and effective leadership and delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with University strategy, policy and procedures. You will undertake research activity and engage in enterprise activity, influencing leading edge practice.
