The School of Nursing’s mission is to provide a rich, stimulating and supportive environment for students and staff, enabling them to develop their full potential through excellent higher education, innovative solutions and real-world research to stimulate health and wellbeing within communities and advance nursing excellence at every level.

As one of the largest Schools of Nursing in the UK it delivers and through its significant partnership working, makes a significant contribution to both the regional and broader health economy and workforce through the provision of pre-registration, post registration and post graduate education, research and knowledge exchange. Its pre-registration nurse education is delivered across its 3 UK campuses.

As a result of the current post holder taking up a professorial appointment, we seek to recruit a self-confident, proactive, agile and resilient Head of School with proven ability to provide strong, collaborative, academic and people leadership for the School with particular regard to student experience, quality improvement and assurance, research, business development and innovation and partnership.

As Head of School you will engender a culture of co-operation and respect, developing effective and productive relationships with peers and colleagues within the wider University to develop and encourage a shared vision for the School; lead on the formulation and implementation of strategic and operational plans aligned to the University’s mission and strategy and support the Faculty’s contribution to institutional KPIs.

Experienced in building and sustaining internal and external relationships and with a strong track record in delivering research, innovation and/or consultancy you will be educated to Doctoral level and hold current NMC registered Nurse status, and have proven experience of leading high performing teams and of implementing of strategy and policy in areas relevant to the school.

Experience of managing staff and financial resources in a HE environment and proven ability to influence and deliver results in areas within and outside own academic or professional background are essential to this role.

You will be credible and well-respected within your field and have good analytical, critical thinking and negotiating skills and be able to develop creative and innovative solutions and deliver change effectively.
