Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study right in the heart of the city and we currently have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Professor/ Head of Department for Pre-Qualifying Practice. This is a key appointment within the School of Nursing and Midwifery and forms part of the School Management Team.
The post holder will be responsible for the academic leadership of the department which requires the individual to make a significant contribution to the leadership, management and enhancement of teaching and learning strategies, academic standards and leading edge practice.
The post holder will also be responsible for
- leading and managing a department of academic staff
- developing, maintaining and enhancing the quality of our apprenticeship provision (Nursing Associate and AP) across all levels
- managing a budget effectively
- developing, enabling and delivering research activities and expanding the school’s income generating activity through working closely with our strategic partners locally, nationally and internationally.
It is desirable that applicants will have or be working towards a PhD/ Doctorate.
They must hold a post graduate qualification in a relevant discipline and hold a professional registration with NMC/HCPC. Applicants will also have expertise and experience in apprenticeships plus a developing track record of research/scholarly activity.
Proven academic leadership in Higher Education or Practice Education, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a clear understanding of the direction of travel required for the development of apprenticeship education for the School and Faculty is also a requirement of the post holder.
