The School of Nursing and Midwifery at Queen’s University Belfast offers a wide variety of pre-registration and post-registration nursing and midwifery programmes to both local and international students. We are hoping to appoint External Examiners to a number of programmes as detailed below.
Experienced External Examiners would be preferred but those seeking a first position and having relevant clinical and educational experience may also be considered. All applicants must be at Senior Lecturer level or above. These posts will commence in October 2024 for 4 years.
The School is participating in a Risk-Based External Examining Pilot during this academic year which sees the external examiner role divided into three dimensions, which should be afforded roughly equal time and effort:
• Assessment Standard Setting
• Maintenance of Standards and Quality
• Critical Friend Discussion to Inform Programme Enhancement

The areas in which we require external examiners are as follows:
· BSc Psychological Trauma Studies and EMDR programmes – Academics should have a background assessing and treating trauma.
Pre-registration Nursing;
• BSc Professional Nursing, Learning Disabilities Nursing and MSc Professional Nursing, Learning Disabilities Nursing (MSc TBC)
• BSc Professional Nursing, Children and Young People Nursing
Post Registration Programmes at both level 6 and level 7 with specialisms in Cardiology, ICU, Respiratory and Tissue Viability
• BSc Health Studies and Specialist Practice Programmes various subjects at BSc, Grad Dip and PG Dip
• Nurse and Midwife Prescribing at level 6 and level 7 – those applying must be prescribers
