The Division of Nursing and Paramedic Science at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh is seeking an External Examiner to work with us on collaborative programmes delivered in partnership with local NHS Boards.

An External Examiner is required for the core modules within the: Postgraduate Diploma/MSc Advanced Clinical Practice Collaborative Pathway. This collaborative pathway prepares registered and experienced health professionals working in the NHS to develop the clinical, academic and reflective skills to take on Advanced Practice roles.

  • Advanced History Taking and Clinical Examination for Advanced Practitioners (attracts 40 credits at SCQF level 11 (Masters)
  • Clinical Work-based Learning for Advanced Practitioners (attracts 40 credits at SCQF level 11 (Masters)
  • Dissertation module (60 credits at SCQF, level 11)

And the: Continuing Professional Practice Development Framework:

  • Clinical Assessment and Decision Making (attracts 40 credits at SCQF Level 10)

Successful completion of the Clinical Assessment and Decision Making (CADM) module is a pre requisite for practitioners who wish to progress to an Advanced practitioner role.

Requirements:
Applications are invited from suitably qualified & experienced academic staff in the relevant areas. Applicants should be an experienced registered Nurse who is familiar with the domains and competencies of advanced level nursing practice. Applicants should hold appropriate academic qualifications, including, a teaching qualification and a master’s or higher-level qualification.

External Examiners are responsible for external moderation of assessments, attend Subject Exam Boards and complete an annual monitoring report. External examiners are also required to provide comments on proposed modifications to modules and the development of new modules within their area of expertise.

The appointment will be with effect from January 2024 and will be for a period of 5 years.
