Bournemouth University is seeking to appoint two External Examiners to join the one External Examiner already in post for the PGDip Advanced Mental Health Practice.

The principal aim of the programme is to prepare suitably qualified and experienced practitioners to undertake the role of Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended in 2007).

Applicants for the External Examiner role should have practice experience as an ASW or AMHP and remain on their relevant professional register. Experience of academic involvement on an AMHP programme is desirable but not essential.

The appointment will be for a period of 4 years starting in December 2022 and the University provides an External Examiner Induction/Briefing seminar in November and March each year to support new and experienced External Examiners. The fee paid to External Examiners per year is £450.

As External Examiner, your duties would include:

  • External moderation of a range of assignments
  • Review proposed assessment briefs to determine their appropriateness
  • Submission of an annual report to the Academic Quality department
  • Attendance at Assessment Boards
  • Advising on matters such as programme review and/or modifications
