Nursing (Registered Nurse – Child ) Bachelor of Science with Honours
The School of Health and Social Care at the University of Lincoln is seeking an experienced External Examiner for our Child pre-registration nursing programmes, both standard and apprenticeship routes. The curriculum has been developed from the Standards of proficiency for registered nurses, education and training (NMC 2018). The successful applicant will be responsible for reviewing 30 credit modules delivered at level 4, 5 and 6.

The modules are as follows from academic year 2023/24 onwards:

Fundamental Nursing Care
Nursing and the Interprofessional team
Personal Development and resilience
Person-centred Holistic Child Nursing care

Healthcare Sciences
Assessing need, planning and co-ordinating care
Providing and Evaluating care
Promoting Health and Preventing ill health

Being an Accountable Professional
Innovation to transformation in Nursing
Leadership and Practice Education
Leading and managing Complex Child care

External Examiners play a central role in the maintenance of the standards of the University’s awards and the currency of the curriculum. They perform this role through:

  • the approval of assessment tasks and examination papers
  • discussions with relevant academic staff
  • the review of samples of student work on modules within the programme, including practice documents / visits
  • the endorsement of marks to confirm that the marks are an agreed, fully moderated and externally examined set of results
  • the submission of annual reports
  • attendance at appropriate boards of examiners
  • agreement to programme modifications
  • Review of Apprenticeship portfolio (training to be provided by University of Lincoln)

Ideal applicants should possess the following:

  • Current registration with the NMC (Child field)
  • Recordable teaching qualification with the NMC
  • Relevant experience and expertise to maintain comparable quality standards
