External Examiner – Nursing Associate Higher Apprenticeship

We are seeking to appoint a Subject and Award External Examiner for the University of Plymouth Pre-registration Nursing Associate FdSc Programme and Return to Practice – Nursing Associate Programme, both approved by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and lead to eligibility for entry/re-entry to the NMC professional register upon successful completion of the programme.

The Pre-registration Nursing Associate FdSc Programme is a 2 year programme based within the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Health, delivered as an apprenticeship and also meets the requirements of the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education for the Nursing Associate (NMC, 2018) Standard (2019).

Our programme gives both new and existing healthcare staff the opportunity to study for a fully-funded FdSc, and obtain a professional qualification and registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (provided all requirements are met).

The Return to Practice Programme is a 16 week level 5 – that runs concurrently with our Level 6 Return to Practice for Nursing, midwifery and SPCHN blended learning on line course that has a 450 hour assessed practice placement.

This position does require the external examiner to be a Registered Nurse (Child, Adult Mental Health or Learning Disabilities), have a recordable teaching qualification, a current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council and have previous external examining experience.

The appointment will be for four years, and the commitment required is as follows:

  • To review a range of coursework throughout the year.
  • To attend via Zoom an assessment panel per year and to submit an annual external examiner report.
  • To engage in communication with the programme team.
  • To carry out an interim visit per year, either in person or by virtual means, to meet with staff and students to obtain feedback on assessment in practice and to strengthen your engagement with the ongoing teaching, learning and assessment processes.
