The School of Healthcare is seeking to appoint an external examiner for the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice and its partner programme the Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Assessment. The MSc Advanced Clinical Practice is offered as both an apprenticeship and as a traditional taught programme. These popular multi-disciplinary programmes attract students from a wide range of clinical backgrounds. In addition to acting as programme external examiner the successful applicant will be expected to examine a range of clinical and non-clinical modules associated with the programmes and to act as external assessor for the apprenticeship programme.
Applicants should ideally have experience of delivering and or supporting Advanced Clinical Practice programmes and would normally hold a higher degree at Masters level or above. Previous experience of acting in the role of external examiner is desirable but not essential.
There is a two-tier examination board system comprising of Module Assessment Boards and School Progression and Awards Board (SPAB). All external examiners are full members of these committees and are required to attend at least one meeting of the SPAB per year and be available for consultation on assessment and curriculum issues. All meetings are held via MS Teams. The School uses Blackboard based systems to assess most assignments.
The appointment is to commence from the 2023-2024 academic session and is normally of 4-years duration. All appointments are subject to approval by the Faculty Taught Student Education Committee. The successful candidate will have access to an on-line training course to familiarise themselves with the role at Leeds and have the opportunity to meet the teaching team; additional support is available for those who have not undertaken the role before.
Anyone wishing to be considered for this role is invited to submit an expression of interest and detailed Curriculum Vitae outlining employment history, qualifications, teaching experience, research/scholarly activities, and any previous external examining activity to the programme leader, Ian Goulden, who can also be contacted by email (see below) or telephone: 0113 343 1338 for informal discussion.
