Level 7, Credits 180. The course sits within the Division of Advanced Clinical Practice and Non-medical Prescribing, School of Nursing and Midwifery, as part of the Institute of Health and Social Care.

Dr. Barbara Stillwell founded the first advanced nursing practice course at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) in 1990. The original RCN Advanced Nurse Practitioner course moved to London South Bank University, where it has been developed for more than 20 years.

London South Bank University operates a two-tier examination board system, with external examiners being initially appointed to a Subject Area Board where they will oversee a number of academic modules. More experienced external examiners may subsequently be appointed to an Award and Progression Examination Board. The Examination Board meets virtually three times a year, and there is an expectation that the external examiner will attend at least one Examination Board during the year and submit an annual report to the University.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified academic staff who hold a minimum of a Master’s degree. All appointments are subject to the candidate meeting the University’s criteria for appointment (UK Quality Code for HE; Chapter 7 External Examining; Indicator 5). Whilst applications from experienced External Examiners are preferred, anyone with appropriate educational and professional experience would be considered. The appointment will be for four years from Dec 2023.

We are a friendly team who believe in working closely with our external examiner to provide consistent assessment, constructive feed-forward, and the best possible student experience.
