The University of Central Lancashire is seeking to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified academic to act as the External Examiner for the Advanced Certificate Non-Medical Prescribing course (Independent & Supplementary Prescribing qualification for nurses, midwives, pharmacists and eligible AHPs). This is a 40-credit module.

The successful applicant must be registered on either the NMC, HCPC or GPhC register and hold the Independent & Supplementary Prescribing qualification or Independent Prescribing for Pharmacists. The applicant will also have experience of teaching and leading prescribing courses. They will be required to review both Level 6 and Level 7 work including several assessments. These include – numeracy exams; pharmacology exams; OSCEs, Clinical Assessment Documents, Pharmacist Clinical Skills Logs, and a selection of 2000 – 2500-word reflective essays. There are six multi-disciplinary intakes per year, two of which are open to pharmacists.

The External Examiner will be expected to attend at least one programme assessment board per year (usually December), review student work, contribute to the overall assessment process, advise on any changes to the programme and produce an Annual Report.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced academic staff. All appointments are subject to the candidate meeting the University’s criteria for External Examiners.
The appointment will be with effect from September 2024 and will be for a period of four years.
