The School of Healthcare is seeking to appoint an external examiner for its 2 Independent and Supplementary Prescribing postgraduate modules for nurses and midwives and allied health professionals. The modules are accredited by the NMC and HCPC respectively and can be studied as part of the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice or on a stand-alone basis.
The modules, which are predominantly co-taught, offer rigorous theoretical underpinning to support high stakes clinical practice and are very popular with two intakes per year. They are delivered by highly experienced practitioners.
We are seeking to appoint an individual who has a master’s degree or above; experience of delivering and or supporting Independent and Supplementary Prescribing courses; current appropriate registration with the NMC; and who is working within a Higher Education institution. Previous experience of acting in the role of external examiner is desirable but not essential.
The tenure of appointment is for a period of four years. All external examiner appointments are subject to approval by the Faculty Taught Student Education Committee. The successful candidate will have access to an on-line training course to familiarise themselves with the role at Leeds and have the opportunity to meet the teaching team; additional support is available for those who have not undertaken the role before.
External examiners are required to attend the relevant exam board (at least one per year) and be available for consultation on assessment and curriculum issues. The School uses GradeMark to mark assignments and the external examiner will be required to view students’ work and markers’ comments on-line.
Anyone wishing to be considered is invited to submit an expression of interest and detailed Curriculum Vitae outlining employment history, qualifications, teaching experience, research/scholarly activities, a brief statement supporting the application, NMC PIN and, where applicable, any previous external examining activity by 14 March 2023 to Melanie McGinlay (Module Leader), Email: independentprescribingteam@leeds.ac.uk
You are most welcome to contact Melanie McGinlay for an informal discussion or further details.
