Closing Date:

Salary Range:
Region:

In the 3 years since nurse education returned to the University of Winchester, we have developed 3-year Bachelor of Nursing programmes in the four fields of Adult, Child, Learning Disabilities and Mental Health. In response to local workforce needs across the Wessex region we have gone on to develop 4-year Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship (RNDA) pathways in all fields, as well as a NA to RN ‘top up’. The provision of nursing programmes across all four fields has enabled us to provide a richness of experience for all our learners, and meaningfully incorporate the University’s values of ‘Compassion’, ‘Individual’s Matter’ and ‘Spirituality’.

We are seeking to appoint an External Examiner for our Foundation Degree (FdSc) Nursing Associate Apprenticeship programme, which started in September 2021, and widens the access to achieving NMC registration for those who may not previously have considered studying in higher education. You would act as a critical friend to a dynamic and growing team of nurse academics and support the governance and assessment processes within our programme, as well as new courses as they are developed.

This position requires the external examiner to be a registered Nursing Associate or Nurse. The appointment will be from September 2022 or as soon as possible for four years, and the specific commitments are as follows:

  • To review a range of coursework throughout the academic year.
  • To attend one board of examiners meeting for the programme each year and submit an annual external examiner report.
  • To engage in communication with the programme team when required.
  • To carry out at least one virtual or face to face meeting with apprentice learners.

Previous external examining experience is desirable. Fees and expenses are payable in line with the university policy. If you would like to be considered for this role, or would like further information, please submit a CV by email to Chris Gale (Academic Head of Department, Nursing- Chris.Gale@winchester.ac.uk) and Penny Marsh (Programme Leader for Nursing Associate Programme – Penny.Marsh@winchester.ac.uk) by Thursday 28th April 2022.
