The Three Counties School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Worcester is seeking an External Examiner (EE) for Nursing Degree Apprenticeship (Adult/Mental Health) programme. This programme was approved in May 2023 as a full time route and part time route which both commenced in September 2023.

The BSc (Hons) Nursing Degree Apprenticeship is a fully integrated degree apprenticeship. University of Worcester is the End Point Assessment Organisation. The EE will therefore be required to contribute to the quality assurance of the End Point Assessment (EPA). Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced academic staff who have an interest and suitable experience related to apprenticeship nursing programmes. The successful applicant must have experience of delivering the nursing/nursing associate apprenticeships and be aware of the requirements of the fully integrated EPA which is a mandatory requirement of the apprenticeship standard.

The University of Worcester offers support for external examiners and a full induction day. Further support is also provided by the Course Lead and module teams.

The successful applicant will be appointed with effect from September 2024, for a term of four academic years.

The post holder will be required to:

  • Review and verify assessments
  • Quality assure the standards of performance
  • Review proposed course changes and claims for recognition of prior learning
  • Meet with apprentices and employer partners
  • Confirm assessment processes are fair and just
  • Attend scheduled examination boards, which will include responsibly for the final decision on the award of the qualification that confirms the apprentice has met the academic award required for registration with the NMC
  • Provide an annual report to the University of Worcester

All appointments are subject to the candidate meeting the University’s criteria for appointment. Applicants are advised that the University applies the following criteria to external examiners:

  • The area of expertise of external examiners is within the area of assessment undertaken
  • Applicants should have recently been employed (or are still employed) within a university appointment
  •  He/she must not have been a University of Worcester examiner within the last five years
  • Applicants must be registered with the NMC.
