The Nursing Studies team seeks to appoint a new External Examiner to support assessment, development and quality assurance on our two pre-registration nurse education programmes.

The BN with Honours is a four year programme (SCQF levels 8 & 10), leading to registration as an Adult Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The MN programme is an innovative two year postgraduate programme (SCQF level 11), also leading to NMC registration and catering for students from a wide range of undergraduate degree backgrounds. The programmes prepare students for the evolving healthcare landscape and equip them with the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of healthcare environments and with a variety of different populations. Critical thinking, teamwork, innovation and interdisciplinarity are key elements of courses across the programmes as students engage with a spiral curriculum to develop the skills, attributes and critical thinking capability required of a registered nurse.

More information about each programme is available here:

The Nursing Studies team are seeking to appoint an External Examiner to join our existing Examiners from January 2023. The appointment would be for a three to five year period of tenure. You would be required to review work from a range of courses over the BN and MN programmes and review undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. In addition, you will be asked to review records from practice learning experiences, assessor comments and progression recommendations. The same External Examining team review student work for the BA Health Studies with Honours programme where students have decided to withdraw from the clinical component of the BN programme.

Nominations are invited for these vacancies from suitably qualified and experienced individuals who hold an NMC registration. The examiner must possess an MSc as a minimum and preferably a doctorate, must have completed a postgraduate qualification in education and must have experience of NMC regulated programmes.
