The University of Leicester School of Healthcare is seeking to appoint two external examiners for its first innovative 4-year Undergraduate Master in Science Nursing with Leadership programme Dual Registration and Single Registration, which commenced in 2018. The external examiner will contribute to the assessment process, review and report on student course work, attend the Board of Examiners and submit an annual report.
The University of Leicester’s criteria for appointing external examiners include demonstrating the following:
a) knowledge and understanding of UK sector agreed reference points for the maintenance of academic standards and assurance and enhancement of quality;
b) relevant academic and professional qualifications to at least a Masters degree and a nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration;
c) competence and experience relating to designing and operating a variety of assessment tasks and procedures appropriate to nursing and related subjects;
d) familiarity with the standard expected of students to achieve the award that is to be assessed;
e) awareness of current developments in the design and delivery of nursing curricula.
Previous experience is an advantage and there are comprehensive online training resources for all new external examiners on the Leicester Learning Institute website. Further support will be provided at School level.
