This position has been created to provide senior management support within the College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare which is located across two campuses, in Brentford (West London) and Reading (Berkshire). Whilst the post holder will be expected to work across both campuses, they will have specific responsibility for the day-day academic and business operations at the Berkshire campus in Reading and deputising for the PVC Dean in relation to our Berkshire provision.

The appointed individual will be a senior member of the College’s Executive team, playing a key role in vision, strategic planning and decision making. They will be expected to share and provide academic leadership and support for a range of responsibilities with the PVC Dean and College Executive.

The successful candidate will possess a current track record of academic expertise related to the student journey and underpinning quality assurance mechanisms to support this. Areas of expertise to support this should include the student experience, curriculum development, student continuation, progression to graduate employment; continuing professional development across subject areas; knowledge exchange in an area(s)relevant to the College which will contribute to enterprise activity and income generation; partnerships with employers, stakeholders, and professional statutory regulatory bodies and experience of engagement with local schools and colleges. These responsibilities will need to be wrapped around within an approach that promotes equality diversity and inclusivity.

A critical role will be strengthening the leadership of the College. To this end, the successful candidate will have management and leadership responsibility for specific areas of the College.

They will thus be able to demonstrate recent experience of management and leadership of a group of staff, delivered as a main aspect of a previous position, in an academic, professional, health or social care environment. They will need to possess a thorough knowledge of an academic area relevant to the College and a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges that exist in the HE sector and public sector, as relevant to the College and the risks inherent within the portfolio delivered. They will also possess the skills and ability to innovate, develop and maintain strong partnerships, along with the determination to achieve the highest standards in everything they do.

The post holder will be expected to liaise and work with professional services and colleagues in other Schools/Colleges, as necessary. This also includes deputising at university committees for the PVC Dean.

However, it is possible that if the needs of the College changes in the future, if they so wish, the successful candidate may have the opportunity to take on other specified College-wide operations. Thus a degree of flexibility and a willingness to take on other and/or additional or responsibilities as the need arises would be useful.

With day-day responsibility for the Berkshire campus in Reading and deputising for the PVC Dean, the successful candidate will be expected to ensure all academic and business operations as stipulated above, are carried out on the campus. They will also champion the College and University and be able to contribute more broadly to the College and University as required.
