About the Role

The Academic Assessor is a role within the NMC Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment (2018) ensuring:

  • a fair /objective assessment of students;
  • a point of contact for practice staff with assessment/ concerns about student behaviour/ conduct or assessment,
  • a point of advice for practice assessors and practice supervisors.

The post holder will provide an element of student support, liaising with key university contacts to support students’ educational achievement, professional proficiency and practice.

The post holder is expected to work from home, although flexibility to meet with Practice Assessors at key times during practice assessment period is essential.

About You

You will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent student experience. A relevant NMC professional registration is essential i.e., Nursing Associate, Registered Nurse or Midwife with experience of person-centred care across learning disability, Mental Health, Children/ young people, Frailty / older people or childbearing women and birthing people and babies.

For Nursing and Midwifery, a first level degree is required with evidence of recent relevant post registration qualifications essential to demonstrate your contemporary knowledge of professional practice.

Evidence of effective teaching experience in clinical practice, with pre-registration students and/ or staff is advantageous, although these roles provide opportunity to advance your educational experience.

We are seeking staff who would be interested to further their understanding of practice assessment, through undertaking the role of Academic Assessor. You are required to hold or be working towards a Post Graduate certificate in Higher Education/ Clinical Education and be willing to become an Advance HE fellow (support for this will be given).

To be successful you will further enrich our students’ experience through your expertise and subject knowledge as evidenced through your qualifications and experience.
