Salary: UH7 £34,304 – £40,927 pro rata per annum depending on skills and experience

The purpose of the post is to work collaboratively with the rest of the SSAS team, and with colleagues across the school, to improve students’ engagement and progress within their programmes of study.

We particularly encourage applications from BAME candidates to tackle staff under-representation where it exists and better reflect our diverse student cohort.

Main duties and responsibilities
You will be expected to support academic skills provision in HSK, being aware of the School priorities particularly relating to enhancement of inclusivity within the School’s learning community, including improvements in the BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) degree awarding gap and increasing numbers of good degrees. The role will require you to work closely and collaboratively with the other members of the SSAS team and liaise with relevant colleagues across the School and university to provide and/or collaborate on a range of workshops and events to support student success and academic literacy.

You must provide opportunities for students to work independently towards the development of academic skills through provision of quality online resources and learning task and contribute to the one-to-one support and small group tutorials provision that SSAS provide to students. Additionally, you will work in partnership with students to ensure that their perspectives and experience are at the centre of the school’s work.

Skill and experience required
You will have proven demonstrable experience of working with/supporting students in HE to enhance engagement and success and proven experience of working with peers or colleagues to improve performance. You will also be expected to have proven experience and confidence in designing and delivering workshop content in a fast-paced environment.

You must be proficient in English Language and be able to use ICT effectively to support teaching and communication. You will also have Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to correspond effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of stakeholders.

You will be able to work effectively as a team member, taking the lead where appropriate, whilst also having the ability to work independently.

Qualifications required
You must hold a minimum of a degree, or equivalent level 6 qualification, in a subject appropriate for the post. Having a Fellowship of AdvanceHE would be advantageous.
