Philosophy
SimCast explores the people, practice, and pedagogy behind simulation-based education.
Mission
SimCast exists to demystify simulation-based education (SBE) and make it accessible, practical, and human. We believe simulation is not a technology—it’s a pedagogy. Whether it takes place in a clinical skills suite, a virtual environment, or a pop-up classroom, its power lies in relationships, reflection, and realism. At its core, SimCast is about learning through doing and thinking about that doing—the fusion of theory, practice, and praxis. Our conversations explore how simulation helps learners bridge that gap and how educators can build inclusive, psychologically safe spaces where real growth happens.
Aims
- Share the latest thinking and good practice in healthcare simulation and practice-based learning.
- Provide pragmatic guidance for educators, students, and simulation leaders.
- Celebrate the artistry and humanity of facilitation—the craft behind great debriefs and believable fiction contracts.
- Encourage innovation through collaboration.
- Grow a community of practitioners who learn from one another.
Types of Content
Each episode blends conversation, storytelling, and scholarship. You can expect:
- Deep dives into simulation theory, fidelity, realism, and the language of simulation.
- Practical guides on facilitation, debriefing, and scenario design—shared with honesty and humour.
- Spotlights on innovation, from the use of AI in simulation to interprofessional approaches.
- Personal narratives from educators and students that reveal the lived experience of simulation.
- Toolkit discussions—SITE, GOLD, and other frameworks born from practice and research. Every episode balances rigour with relatability: we discuss the challenges, share our errors, and keep our feet firmly in the reality of higher education practice.
