Innovation Month, February 2025

Innovation Month has now ended. The Council of Deans of Health has delivered an interesting and engaging Innovation Month for its members, and we’d like to offer our personal thanks to everyone who enriched the conversation with their thoughts, ambitions, projects and challenges.

Following the Digital Summit, the Council of Deans of Health will be dedicating a month to exploring and sharing healthcare innovations and advancements, as well as some of our members’ work. Throughout the month, we will be focusing on various issues including environmental sustainability in education, AI in healthcare education, simulation, virtual worlds and EDI, innovations in the devolved nations, and more.

All of our Innovation Month 2025 content are available on this page.

Welcome to Innovation Month 2025

Webinar

In partnership with colleagues from the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, we’re delighted to welcome Dr Ayoma Ratnappuli to showcase how HEIs have been innovative in promoting and implementing ways in which healthcare education can be sustainable. This webinar follows a previous Council of Deans of Health workshop which explored the challenges and opportunities of integrating environmental sustainability into healthcare education and the role Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) play in advocating for and implementing sustainable healthcare practices.

Podcasts

In this episode, Ed Hughes (CEO, CoDH) and Ruth Paterson (Chair, CoDH Innovation & Pedagogy Group; Head of Nursing, Edinburgh Napier University) reflect on the success of the Digital Summit hosted by the Council in London on January 28th.  Speakers discuss the impact of Digital Learning on healthcare delivery, EDI considerations around equitable access to learning modalities, and the importance of retaining ‘human factors’ in both healthcare and education. They also explore the implications for HEIs as they shift toward digital learning.

We are delighted to share our members’ best practice and innovations in healthcare education across Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Colleagues from Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) share details about the Immersive Technologies Project. We also hear about the impact of enabling Authentic Assessment at Edinburgh Napier University. Finally, we learn how innovative learning through serious games can be useful in teaching difficult topics such as pancreatic cancer or dementia awareness.
