External Examiner for Online PG in Acute and Urgent Care, Diabetes, Healthcare Leadership, Medical Education and Primary Care

The University of Wolverhampton is seeking external examiners for a suite of online post graduate programmes in Acute and Urgent Care, Diabetes, Healthcare Leadership, Medical Education and Primary Care. External examiners will be appointed into either Award and/or Module-level, depending on experience.

We are seeking candidates whose areas of expertise would enable them to monitor the quality of this course and externally moderate assessed work. External examiners are required to attend at least one assessment board a year and complete an annual report. External examiners are also required to provide comments on proposed modifications and the development of new modules within their area of expertise.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified practice and academic staff. Applicants should have an insight into the design and delivery of academic modules delivered, assessed and evaluated against standards and quality assurance in the UK Higher Education sector. These are clinically focused courses and would expect applicants to be registered with their professional body; e.g; GMC, NMC, HCPC and have relevant subject knowledge and experience.

The University of Wolverhampton offers support for external examiners, including training, online resources and guidance and further support provided by the programme leader and module team. First-time external examiners will be mentored by an experienced external examiner from the Faculty.

Applicants are advised that the University applies the following criteria to external examiners:

  • The area of expertise of external examiners is within the area of examinations undertaken.
  • Applicants should have recently been employed (or are still employed) within a university appointment.
  • Applicants must not have been a University of Wolverhampton examiner within the last five years.
  • Applicants will be registered with their practicing professional body.

The role requires providing advice and recommendations to module teams about teaching and learning content and assessment design. External moderation of assessments, attendance at assessment review boards (on-line) and completion of an Annual External Examiners Report. It is also desirable that the external examiner can attend for one additional day in person to visit.

Previous external examining experience would be welcomed but is not essential. All appointments are subject to a panel review of perspective nominations. Applications are by submission of CV.

The post is for an initial period of 4 years, starting 1st September 2025
