Partner Network: Australian Council of Deans of Health Sciences & Council of Deans of Nursing and Midwifery
Our UK-Australian Partnership is based on a memorandum of understanding between the Council of Deans of Health (UK), the Australian Council of Deans of Health Sciences and Council of Deans of Nursing and Midwifery (Australia and New Zealand).
The partnership is based on increasing cooperation with our Australian colleagues, sharing work on policy, engagement and governance to explore areas of overlap, shared interest and lessons we can learn from each other. This is facilitated by regular meetings between our respective organisations as well as member events to increase understanding and bring both sides closer together.
So far, we’ve co-hosted two online networking meetings:
- 12 May 2025 – This meeting launched the Memorandum of Understanding and the event was led by Chairs and Chief Executives of respective organisations.
- 12 November 2025 – This unique international collaboration explored the concept of professional identity in healthcare, with a focus on the tensions and synergies between generalist and specialist approaches. Participants engaged in cross-disciplinary and cross-country discussions examining how different systems and professions perceive the role and value of degree-level education in shaping healthcare professionals. The event offered an opportunity to share perspectives, challenge assumptions, and contribute to a global conversation on the future of healthcare education.
