The School of Dental, Health and Care Professions (SDHCP) at the University of Portsmouth are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified External Examiner for a suite of 5 modules (FHEQ levels 4, 5 and 6) shared across a number of programmes in Nursing and Allied Health, namely:
- BN (Hons) Nursing (Adult)
- BN (Hons) Nursing (Mental Health)
- BSc (Hons) Advanced Dental Nursing
- BSc (Hons) Dental Hygiene
- BSc (Hons) Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy
- BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography and Medical Imaging
- BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice
- BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science
The shared modules broadly cover evidence informed practice, research approaches and service improvement and therefore applicants with a background in health or care related research would be particularly welcome. Current relevant experience in higher education along with professional registration in one of the programme areas is essential.
Applicants should:
- Be actively involved in education and training programmes with experience in assessment of the areas covered by the programme;
- Hold relevant academic and/or professional qualifications to at least the level of the qualification being externally examined, with extensive practitioner experience;
- Meet criteria set by professional, statutory or regulatory bodies;
- Be aware of professional body policies including those of the General Dental Council (GDC), Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC).
The External Examiner will be required to be present at the SDHCP Module Assessment Board and the Board of Examiners’ meetings for the programme (at least one per year) and be available for consultation on assessment and curriculum issues.
All appointments are subject to approval by the University External Examiners Nomination Panel. The University runs regular induction seminars for recently appointed External Examiners. The aim of the seminars is to introduce External Examiners to the regulations and procedures of the University of Portsmouth, as well as providing an opportunity to meet University staff and other External Examiners. Where relevant, you will also be invited to visit and attend additional sessions face to face or online with the relevant programmes.
