- BSc (Hons) 3-Year Midwifery Programme (Apprenticeship)
- MSc Midwifery (3-year and 2-year shortened programmes)
- Post Registration modules: Maternity Support Worker, Frenulotomy, Systematic Examination of the Newborn and Professional Midwifery Advocate.
Description
We are seeking to appoint an External Examiner for pre registration midwifery programmes and post registration midwifery modules delivered at the University of Hull. Students completing the pre registration BSc and MSc programmes are eligible for registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). Modules within these programmes are jointly taught and assessed with the 2 year shortened MSc Midwifery programme from Trimester 2, Year 2. All pre-registration programmes have a single annual intake in September.
The post registration modules have the following intake patterns:
- Maternity Support Worker – May and September
- Professional Midwifery Advocate – May and September
- Frenulotomy – September
- Systematic Examination of the Newborn – May
External Examiner appointments are normally made for a period of four years, commencing at the start of the 2026/27 academic year. Applicants must have relevant experience and knowledge of both pre and post registration midwifery education and must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council. Previous experience as an External Examiner is desirable. Appointment will be subject to meeting the University of Hull’s criteria for External Examiners
The duties of the position are as follows:
- Consideration and moderation of students’ assessments of theory and practice learning.
- Submission of an External Examiner’s Annual Report
- Membership and attendance at Boards of Examiners
- Collaboration with programme directors, module leaders, and administrative colleagues to inform the continued monitoring, review and enhancement of these programmes.
