External Examiner – Master’s Level Advanced Research Methods and Dissertation

The Department of Nursing, Community and Public Health is seeking to appoint an External Examiner for the following area:

We invite applications from suitably qualified academic staff to serve as External Examiner for our Master’s Level Advanced Research Methods and Dissertation modules within the Department of Nursing, Community and Public Health at Glasgow Caledonian University.

These modules support learners undertaking advanced academic study and developing research skills relevant to contemporary health and social care practice. The role involves oversight of assessment standards, academic quality, and the integrity of research-focused learning within the programme.

Applicants should have experience in:

  • Teaching, supervising, and assessing students in research methods and dissertation modules at HEI level
  • Delivering or leading similar modules within nursing, health, or social sciences
  • Maintaining academic standards and applying assessment regulations.

Previous experience as an External Examiner is desirable but not essential, as the University provides full support and induction for newly appointed examiners.

As an External Examiner, you will:

  • Review a representative sample of assessed work
  • Comment on assessment tasks, marking standards, and overall academic quality
  • Attend up to two Assessment Boards per academic year (online participation is available)
  • Submit an annual written report to support ongoing programme enhancement

The appointment will commence in October 2026 and will run for four years.

All appointments are subject to approval by the University.
