Ranked double TEF Gold for 2023 with 80% of research being classed as world leading in the REF 2021, Keele University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery are seeking to appoint an External Examiner for our newly validated BSc Health and Social Care programme. The programme places emphasis on both national and global perspective in health and social care and provides opportunities for international experiences and internships.
The appointment commences in September 2025, for a period of 4 years.
External examiners are key in supporting the school and play an important role in maintaining the standards of the University’s awards. The role includes:
- Approval of assessment tasks
- Reviewing samples of students work, both written and practical assessments.
- Engagement with placement-based assessment documents.
- Review of assessment processes and programme modifications
- Sharing expert knowledge in content delivery and assessment
- Attendance at relevant examination boards (usually online and once a year)
- Submission of annual reports
Essential:
- Working in a UK HEI, with no formal educational links to Keele University in the last 5 years
- A recordable teaching qualification
- Relevant academic and/or professional qualifications to at least the level of the qualification being externally examined
- Direct experience of teaching and assessing in the applicable subject area
Previous experience as an external examiner is desirable, but not essential. We particularly encourage applications from members of the global majority community, as this group is currently underrepresented among External Examiners.
