External Examiner for Operating Department Practice programs

The University of East Anglia (UEA) invites applications for the role of External Examiner for our Operating Department Practice programs, accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and endorsed by the College of Operating Department Practitioners (CODP). This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the quality assurance and continuous improvement of our programmes.

The successful candidate will provide an external review for our programs as we transition from the undergraduate deliver to apprenticeship. The role is vital in maintaining the high standards of our curriculum and the University’s awards, ensuring they meet Professional, Statutory, and Regulatory Body (PSRB) guidelines.

We currently have two programs running as we transition from an undergraduate focus to apprenticeship provision.

The post will require consideration of portfolios and assessments related to several modules of study:

We currently have Year 1 (Sept 2024) and Year 2 (Sept 2023) and Year 3 (Sept 2022) cohorts completing the BSc ODP curriculum and Year 1 (February 2025) of the Degree Apprenticeship.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Reviewing and providing feedback on draft assessment guidelines and examination papers.
  • Evaluating samples of student work and attending pre-Exam Board meetings.
  • Participating in up to two meetings of examiners per year.
  • Submitting an annual report and engaging with the programme team for continuous development.

Optional Involvements:

  • Quarterly Course Committee meetings.
  • Curriculum development and benchmarking activities related to the modules overseen.

The successful applicant will be invited to attend an induction day prior to commencement of the role.
