External Examiner – Bachelor of Nursing (Hons)

The University is seeking to appoint several subject external examiners for its Undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programmes
Bachelor of Nursing (Hons)/MNurse Programme, – The programme recruits’ students across 3 fields of Nursing (Adult; Mental Health; Children and Young People).
MSc Adult Nursing – The MSc Adult Nursing is a two-year pre-registration course, the programme prepares graduates from any discipline for a career in nursing leadership, education or clinical academia

External examiners are required for a range of course units at level 5,6 and 7. Applications are sought for an examiner that has demonstrable experience of teaching and assessing in the any of the following subject areas:

Level 4:
Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology for Nursing Practice

Level 5:
Applied Biosciences for Nursing Practice

Level 6:
Advancing care – the social and political context of health and social care
Nurse as Facilitator of Learning

Level 7:
Knowledge and Skills for Nursing 1 (Exam)
Knowledge and Skills for Nursing 2 (Exam)
Nurse Education in Practice
Research in Professional Practice (to be shared between the two external examiners)
Clinical Practice and Portfolio Development

External examiners for the BNurs (Hons)/MNurs and MSc programmes would normally be expected to visit at least one practice learning environment per year in addition to attendance at Examination Boards, which are usually online but will also include at least one on-campus Board per year.

All coursework is electronically submitted by students through the Canvas VLE, and is marked online using Grademark and Turnitin. External examiners will be required to use the online moderating process. User guides and support will be available. The University appointments for external examiners are normally for a period of 4 years.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Working in a UK HEI with no formal educational links with the University of Manchester in the last 5 years
  • Current registration with the NMC (Adult, Mental Health or Child field) including a recordable teaching qualification
  • Master’s Degree in an area related to one of the above subject areas
  • Direct experience of teaching and assessing in the applicable subject areas

Desirable

  • Research and publications in related area
