External Examiner

This is an external examiner role for the Adult Nursing subject area.

  • The main roles of the Subject Area External Examiner are:
  • To comment upon the assessments set for modules by university staff, in terms of standard, relevance to intended learning outcomes, clarity, and capacity to discriminate appropriately between students.
  • To consider samples of marked work (or other evidence as appropriate, such as artefacts, design shows and presentations) and to comment on standards achieved and to advise on the marks to be awarded.
  • To report to the University on aspects of the quality of the assessment process, the standards set, and the standards achieved. Examiners will be asked to comment specifically on standards in relation to the Office for Students Sector Recognised Standards and any relevant professional, statutory and regulatory body requirements.

The external examiner is asked to comment on standards set and achieved, principally in relation to equivalence of performance of students on similar courses elsewhere and in relation to the Office for Students Sector Recognised Standards and any relevant professional, statutory and regulatory body requirements.

External examiners in the subject area team is normally allocated no more than 15 modules in their area of expertise, although this is dependent on the credit value of the modules. Some external examiners may be allocated more modules than this.
