We are seeking to appoint a Subject External Examiner for the Return to Practice Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) programme, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Health. This programme is a blended learning Program providing for returnees across England and one of the first to be NMC Approved for the new NMC SCPHN Standards covering all 4 fields of SCPHN Practice. We run 2 programmes a year September and February lasting between 6- and 9-months, completion leads to eligibility to re-register with the Nursing & Midwifery Council on part 1and 2 of the register. This position does require the external examiner to be an SCPHN, have a recordable teaching qualification and a current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council. The appointment will be for four years from August 2024, and the commitment required is as follows:
  • To review a range of coursework throughout the year.
  • To attend via Zoom an assessment panel per year and to submit an annual external examiner report.
  • To engage in communication with the programme team.
  • To carry out an interim visit per year, either in person or by virtual means, to meet with staff and students to obtain feedback on assessment in practice and to strengthen your engagement with the ongoing teaching, learning and assessment processes.

The period of appointment will be for a period of four years and the fee paid to External Examiners per year is £450. The University provides an External Examiner Induction/Briefing seminar in November and March each year to support those new to external examining and experienced External Examiners.
