The Council delivers its policy work by working with its strategic policy groups and nation groups. Governance is provided by the Trustee Board which is supported by the Nominations and Remuneration Committee.

Innovation in Education
In a rapidly evolving landscape, education providers are pursuing new and innovative approaches to keep pace with technological advancements, overcome placement capacity challenges, and meet the growing workforce demands. Innovation is essential in ensuring the UK has a healthcare workforce fit for the future.
Equality, diversity and inclusion
Working to make healthcare and healthcare education open to all across the country, combatting discrimination and extending opportunity to people of all backgrounds for workforce that better represents the country it serves.
Regulation
Advocating for adaptive, outcome-focused regulatory reforms that prioritise quality, foster innovation, and promote collaboration to reduce duplication across higher education and healthcare sectors.
Research
Highlighting the value and importance of nursing, midwifery, and AHP research and research roles in tackling real life health challenges and inequalities as well as increasing research capacity and capability for our members.
Nation groups
The voice of members is strengthened by the Council working through the Council of Deans of Health England, the Council of Deans of Health Scotland, the Council of Deans of Health Wales / Cyngor Deoniaid Iechyd Cymru, the Council of Deans of Health Northern Ireland and the Highlands & Islands group, reflecting the devolved nature of health higher education policy. The Council also works through the network of regional deans groups in England.

Scotland
The Council of Deans of Health Scotland represents nursing, midwifery, and allied health education and research in Scottish universities. The council works with organisations like the Scottish Government and NHS Education Scotland to highlight the role of education and research in delivering quality care.

England
Council of Deans of Health England provides a forum for representatives from England’s regions to discuss operational and policy matters pertaining to England, to share local experiences and provide advice to the Council, particularly on matters relating to workforce policy and planning. Each region is represented by its chair or representative as nominated by the regional deans groups.

Wales
Council of Deans of Health Wales / Cyngor Deoniaid Iechyd Cymru is the strategic voice of university faculties in Wales engaged in nursing, midwifery and allied health profession education and research. CoDH Wales works closely with organisations such as Welsh Government, Health Education and Improvement Wales and professional bodies on issues relevant to the sector.

Northern Ireland
The Council of Deans of Health Northern Ireland represents members in Northern Ireland, working with stakeholders including government departments and bodies responsible for healthcare workforce planning, education funding, research funding, statutory regulation and professional representation.
Governance groups
The Council of Deans of Health is a charitable company limited by guarantee. The Council’s governance is provided by a Board of Trustees comprising up to six Elected Trustees drawn from the Council’s membership, six Appointed Trustees and a Chair. The Board is supported by the Nominations and Remuneration Committee.
Who are our members
Our membership comprises over 100 university and further
education faculties across every region and nation of the United Kingdom engaged in healthcare education and research. They are based in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, and Gibraltar.
