We are seeking a new External Examiner, starting in academic year 2026/2027, for the FdSc Health and Social Care Practice (Assistant Practitioner) Apprenticeship. This Level 5 apprenticeship programme provides foundation degree–level education for Assistant Practitioners working across a wide range of healthcare settings. The programme is designed to support assistant practitioners operating within multidisciplinary teams across all HCPC-regulated professions, aligning with national workforce priorities and the Skills for Health Healthcare Assistant Practitioner Apprenticeship Standards.
The University of Brighton offers extensive support for External Examiners and holds workshops annually. Further support is also provided by the Course Leader and Academic Lead. The University normally expects external examiners to attend a minimum of one examination board per year.
The University applies the following criteria to External Examiners: The applicants should have:
- Expertise within the area of examinations undertaken;
- Competence and experience relating to (I) designing and operating a variety of assessment tasks as appropriate; and (II) enhancement of student learning and experience;
- Employed within a university appointment at an HEI;
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Not been a University of Brighton examiner or staff member within the last five years.
- (Preferably) experience with apprenticeship and End Point Assessment (EPA).
One External Examiner is required for the part-time, 2 year, FdSc Health and Social Care Practice (Assistant Practitioner) Apprenticeship.
The role would involve being an External Examiner across Year 1 and 2 modules.
Commencement date October 2026 for a period of 4 years
