The School of Health at Leeds Beckett University is looking to appoint two new External Examiners, one each for BSc (Hons) Social Care, Justice and Recovery and BA (Hons) Working with Children, Young People and Families. The posts start 1st November 2026 for four years.
The courses have been designed to share the majority of modules at Level 4, with the option to transfer ‘pathways’ at the end of the level, after which they follow a more course-specific pathway, but still share a number of modules. To maintain the integrity of each award, we are looking to appoint External Examiners who will each take a lead for a particular qualification but provide scrutiny and quality assurance for modules that are shared across the scheme.
Applicants must be working in UK Higher Education, with experience of teaching and examining at undergraduate level. They should have knowledge and understanding of contemporary health and social care sectors.
External Examiners attend Board of Examiners meetings at least once a year, submit an annual report and review coursework. Previous experience of external examining is not necessary as the University will provide online induction training and a mentor. The appointment is subject to approval by the University’s Scrutiny process.
Due to potential reciprocity issues, we are unable to appoint from the following institutions:
- Birmingham City University
- University of Lincoln
- University of Lancashire, Preston College
- Anglia Ruskin University
- Liverpool Hope University
- Edge Hill University
- University of Nottingham
- University of Derby
