External Advisor (NMC Major Modification) – MSc Nursing – Pre-Registration

The College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare at the University of West London is seeking to appoint an external adviser to support a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) major modification for our postgraduate, pre-registration nursing provision.

Our aim is to offer an exciting Masters portfolio that reflects both the challenging nature of today’s healthcare provision and appeals to the diverse market of potential applicants.

The external adviser will provide independent, expert scrutiny to support confidence in academic standards, regulatory alignment and readiness for the NMC event.

Role and responsibilities

The appointed external adviser will be expected to:

  • Review key programme documentation in advance of the NMC major modification event.
  • Act as an external panel member and participate in the major modification event.
  • Provide expert, independent scrutiny against relevant NMC standards and requirements.
  • Contribute to the panel’s deliberations and provide clear, evidence-informed recommendations to support the approval decision and any conditions or actions.

Person specification

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced nurse educators who can demonstrate:

  • significant experience of pre-reg nursing curriculum development in the UK/have experience of leading on curriculum development for pre-reg nursing in the UK
  • experience of NMC approval and/or major modification events
  • the ability to provide constructive challenge and proportionate recommendations, grounded in regulatory requirements and academic standards.

Eligibility and independence requirements

All appointments are subject to the candidate meeting the University’s criteria for appointment. This includes confirmation that the candidate:

  • is not involved in any reciprocal external assessing or examining arrangements with the School or College developing the course
  • is not registered for an award of the University
  • has not acted as an external adviser or external examiner within the last five years within the School or College developing the course
  • has no conflict of interest
  • meets UKVI right to work requirements and can provide documentary evidence of the right to work in the United Kingdom
  • is available to attend the event being held the week commencing 27 July 2026 in Brentford (TW8 9GA)
