Developing the Research Skilled workforce Project

,
,

A collaboration between the Southwest Clinical Schools, NHSE SW Regional Office and all health care organisations and HEIs in the SW region.

Who is collaborating on this project?

This project is led by the Southwest Clinical Schools (SWCS) and is closely partnered with NHSE South West (SW) Regional Office and collaborates with all health care organisations and HEIs in the SW region.

The SWCS is a partnership of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, and the School of Health Professions, at the University of Plymouth with NHS Trusts in the Southwest Peninsula particularly in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.

What is the project?

This project furthers the activities already undertaken by the SWCS and extends them beyond the Peninsula to the wider Southwest.

The SWCS activities include developing research capacity and capability for NMAHPs in health and care organisations, alongside embedding evidence-based practice, knowledge translation and quality improvement activity. The SWCS also aims to develop, embed, and mobilise NMAHP research and research culture more broadly.

What is the purpose and impact of this collaboration?

This collaboration aims to create sustainable research skills, capacity, and capabilities for all health and care professionals.

It builds on the strengths and assets of individual NHS Trusts, not a ‘one size fits all’ but sharing learning and best practices as well as maximises opportunities for knowledge exchange through webinars and conferences. It also allows the team to create and utilise local and regional funding opportunities (Trust medical Research Fund, NHSE, NIHR).

What are the next steps?

The team plans to strengthen working with CNO’s and Directors of Research in the ICB’s, and develop an advisory group to involve wider stakeholders in the strategic vision. They also plan to continue linking beyond NHS Trusts to include further community, primary care, social care, and the voluntary sector.

Additionally, the team plans to develop clinical academic roles across the University and partners to support research that meet the needs of the area.
