The School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health at Coventry University wishes to appoint an External Examiner to support our current team of External Examiners for modules within the BSc Children and Young People’s Nursing and BSc Children and Young People’s Nursing Apprenticeship courses. Coventry University offers extensive support for External Examiners and holds briefing workshops annually. Further support is also provided by the professional lead, course directors and course administrators. As an External Examiner you will be expected to moderate modules delivered on the course and review assessment materials prior to the Assessment Boards. You will also be required to complete an annual External Examining Report. Applicants are advised that the University applies the following criteria to External Examiners:
  • The area of expertise of External Examiners is within the area of assessment undertaken;
  • Applicants should have recently been employed (or are still employed) within a university appointment;
  • Applicants must not have been a Coventry University Examiner or employee within the last five years;
  • Applicants will have a qualification registered with the HCPC or the NMC and a commitment to interprofessional education;
  • Experience of being an External Examiner is desirable but not essential.

Ranked in the top 6 in England, for Nursing, in the 2022 Complete University Guide and gaining TEF Gold for 2023, Keele University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery are seeking to appoint an External Examiner for the school’s expanding post-registration portfolio. This role will focus on the BSc Clinical Practice programme and include some additional standalone/elective modules, at levels 6 or 7. External examiners are key in supporting the school and play an important role in maintaining the standards of the University's awards. We are a dynamic and motivated team. The role includes:
  • Approval of assessment tasks
  • Reviewing samples of students work, both written and practical assessments.
  • Review of assessment processes and programme modifications
  • Sharing expert knowledge in content delivery and assessment
  • Attendance at relevant examination boards (usually online and usually up to four times a year)
  • Submission of annual reports
  • Support with the approval processes of NMC programmes
Essential:
  • Working in a UK HEI with no formal educational links with Keele University in the last 5 years
  • Current registration with a relevant professional body, including a recordable teaching qualification.
  • Relevant academic and/or professional qualifications to at least the level of the qualification being externally examined.
The successful applicant would be required to commence in post from June 2024, for a period of 4 years. Previous experience as an external examiner is desirable, but not essential. We are seeking to appoint an external examiner for three programmes which enable staff working in health and social care to develop their professional knowledge to equip them for career advancement. The role requires you to review a small number of modules that are delivered either via a partner Further Education College (New College Swindon) or via our online/on-campus provision offered directly by Oxford Brookes University. Students on the BSc are only completing level 6 study to move professional education that is the equivalent of a Foundation degree or Diploma in HE up to a full BSc (Hons) award. The MSc curriculum allows students to combine previous Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at level 7 with research methods study and a dissertation to create a bespoke Masters that will enhance their careers. The suitable candidate for this role will be currently engaged in teaching of a health or social care degree and they will have experience of supporting students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The appointment is from the beginning of September 2024 for a term of four years. External Panel Member Required for Nursing and Midwifery Council and University Re-Validation Panel: Pre-Registration Nursing Programme. The Faculty of Health, Medicine and Social Care at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) are seeking an external panel member for a joint Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and University re-validation panel event due to be held on the 5th June 2024 in person at the Chelmsford campus in Essex. We are seeking an academic peer (NMC Registrant Nurse, any field) who is external to ARU, and not currently working for us as an external examiner or has worked for us in any role within the last five years. You will need to be a permanent member of academic staff at another UK university. As part of this process, you will be required to review the re-validation documents prior to the event. We are seeking to appoint a Subject External Examiner for the MSc in Hazardous Area Response and PgCert First Contact Practitioner in Primary Care (Paramedic) pathway. The programme is based within the School of Health Professions, Faculty of Health. Students on the pathway will be Paramedics but will share modules with other registered health and social care professionals, for example Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Occupational Therapists, and Social Workers. Consequently, the external examiner would be a Paramedic with experience of post-graduate educational provision, have a recordable teaching qualification and a current registration with the HCPC. Modules to be examined include a focus on Paramedic science, interprofessional and distance learning. The appointment will be for four years from August 2024, and the commitment required is as follows:
  • To review a range of coursework throughout the year
  • To attend via Zoom up to three assessment panels a year (March, June, and November) and the submission of external examiner reports
  • To attend one assessment event per year if appropriate (for example, OSCE or oral presentation)
  • To engage in communication with the programme team
  • To carry out an interim visit per year, either in person or by virtual means, to meet with staff and students to obtain feedback on assessment in practice and to strengthen your engagement with the ongoing teaching, learning and assessment processes.

We are seeking to appoint a Subject External Examiner for the UG Dietetic programmes. These programmes are based within the School of Health Professions, Faculty of Health. The BSc (Hons) Dietetics programme is a full time 3-year undergraduate programme and the MDiet (Hons) Dietetics is a full time 4-year undergraduate programme, successful completion of these programmes leads to eligibility to register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This position requires the external examiner to be a dietitian, have a recordable teaching qualification and a current registration with Health and Care Professions Council. Ideally you would be a programme lead or university lecturer on an accredited Nutrition & Dietetic or Dietetic programme. You will be working alongside the Nutrition external examiner and will be responsible for reviewing the dietetic modules within the programmes. About the programme This two-year postgraduate degree programme has been developed for individuals who hold an undergraduate degree (achieving a classification of 2:2 or above) and aspire to advance their careers in the field of nursing. We seek an external examiner for the MSc Person-centred Practice (Palliative Care) and the Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care programmes to start in September 2024. Both programmes are run in partnership with St Columba’s Hospice Care and are open to health professionals working with people with palliative care needs. You will work alongside the Programme Leaders and Programme Teams. The programmes are part-time, delivered online through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous teaching. You will be responsible for a selection of modules from SCQF levels 9, 10 and 11. The ideal candidate should have experience in the field of palliative care and of teaching and assessment in the higher education sector on either a nursing or an allied health professional programme. Possession of a masters degree is essential. Various assessment strategies are utilised, including written assignments, reflective accounts, presentations, and simulated recorded conversations.
