Briefing: UCAS statistics on placed applicants 28 days after A-level and SQA results day 2022

Nations:

UCAS has published data showing a number of applicants have been placed on undergraduate nursing courses at UK universities. The data was delayed in publication due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II, but outlines the figures produced 28 days after A level and SQA results day. The data indicates a decrease in the number of placed nursing and midwifery applicants for 2022. Despite this, both courses have still seen an increase of 14% in comparison to 2019 figures, the last time exam-assessed grades were used to place applicants prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A total of 27,410 nursing applicants have been placed – a decrease of 9.1% since 2021 but an increase of 14.4% since 2019 and pre-pandemic levels. 3,890 midwifery applicants have been placed – a decrease of 6.7% since 2021, but an increase of 9.9% since 2019 and pre-pandemic levels. This compares with a 1% decrease across the wider higher education sector.
