The University of Staffordshire is seeking to appoint an External Examiner for our award-winning post-registration portfolio to ensure appropriate quality standards are achieved within its provision of:
- MSc Advanced Clinical Practice
- MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (Mental Health)
- Various standalone modules L6 and L7 within the continuing professional development portfolio.
These post-registration healthcare courses and modules are delivered at our Centre for Health Innovation in Stafford.
This post-holder would ideally be able to commence post as soon as possible, following the required HR checks and quality processes.
General information
- Applications are invited from suitably qualified healthcare lecturers, with experience in teaching and examining at a UK higher education institution and working knowledge of quality assurance processes.
- The post requires applicants to have insight into current healthcare practice and have relevant higher education experience.
- All appointments are subject to the candidate meeting the University’s criteria for appointment.
- Tenure will normally be for a period of four years.
- Allocation of modules per position is outlined below, however, will be reviewed as appropriate.
- Assessment boards are held 3 times per year, currently using Microsoft Teams meetings.
L6 and L7 modules in the CPD portfolio – studied either within the MSc ACP programme or on a standalone basis.
The external examiner will review various modules in the CPD portfolio.
Indication of modules you would be responsible for:
- Research Methodology and Methods (L7, 20 credits, x2-3 cohorts p/yr)
- Project-Based Change (L7, 40 credits, x3 cohorts p/yr)
- Master’s dissertation (L7, 40 credits, x3 cohorts p/yr)
- Leadership role in Quality, Innovation and Change (L7, 20 credits, x3 cohorts p/yr)
- Applied Anaesthetic Care module (L6, 60 credits, x1 cohort p/yr)
As an External Examiner you will be expected to:
- Have current registration with the NMC, HCPC or GPhC.
- Be employed in Higher Education.
- Scrutinize samples of examination/essay scripts and other assessed materials, advising module assessment boards on the content and standard of assessments.
- Attend a minimum of 2 assessment boards a year.
- Review new modules in preparation for validation events.
- Advise on academic misconduct and appeal cases.
- Submit an annual report to the University Quality Boards (Award EE).
Support for the role:
- Previous experience as an external examiner is preferred. However, if you do not have previous external examiner experience, a mentor will be allocated to you.
- You would be part of a team of external examiners for the continuing professional development healthcare courses here at the University of Staffordshire.
