School: Health and Social Work / Centre for Research in Public Health and Community Care (CRIPACC)
FTE: 0.8, working 29.6 hours a week
Duration of contract: Fixed term for 8 months, ending 30th July 2022
Salary: UH6, £28,756 pro rata pa to £34,304 pro rata pa dependent on skills and experience
Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield, Hertfordshire
We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Senior Research Assistant to work on a collaborative project between the University of Hertfordshire, the NIHR (National Institute for Health Research), ARC (Applied Research Collaboration) and BeeZee Bodies weight management and prevention services for children, families and adults.
The appointee will be based within CRIPACC. The research centre will continue to work remotely for the foreseeable future, but the successful applicant must be prepared to travel to the University when required, as well as to travel as necessary to undertake evaluation fieldwork and other research responsibilities.
Main duties and responsibilities
- You will contribute to the design and organisation of the research project, including project administration and supporting the research team in achieving the project milestones.
- The role will require you to contribute to academic peer reviewed papers and presentations, supervise undergraduate and post-graduate student projects related to the research field and undertake undergraduate and, where appropriate, post-graduate teaching.
- General day to day project delivery including qualitative data collection and analysis, and secondary analysis of quantitative and qualitative monitoring data will also be expected.

Skill and experience required
- You must show your experience working as part of a research team in a Higher Education Institution or in industry. Demonstrable research experience at undergraduate level is also essential for the role.
- You will be expected to show good relevant IT skills and have the knowledge of appropriate databases for the discipline and ability to conduct literature searches in the discipline using appropriate electronic resources. The ability to plan and manage own activities effectively and deal with sensitive material with strict confidentiality will also be required for the role.
Effectiveness within a team setting is essential and you will be required to demonstrate initiative and the ability to learn new skills.
Qualifications required
- You must hold an undergraduate honours degree at a minimum 2:2 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
