The Student Nurse Associate and the Foundation Degree in Health Care Practice (its direct entry equivalent) is an exponentially growing area within the School of Health and Social Care at the University of Hertfordshire. This is an exciting development and we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and preferably experienced Programme Leader with specific knowledge and expertise in Nursing Apprenticeships to provide leadership of a dedicated Programme Team.
The Programme operates as a Foundation Degree at levels 4 and 5, which currently has two intakes per year (September, Dec/Jan) and is generic in terms of preparing students for employment in any of the four fields of nursing. The Student Nursing Associate Programme is an apprenticeship, as well as being available to self-funding candidates and possibly other sponsored students. Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) approval is currently being sought for the direct entry route from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will be the line manager for a small dedicated programme team and lead the overall programme provision including overseeing admissions, the provision and quality of teaching and assessment, the provision of personal tutoring, student support and guidance, and any academic quality related matters. You will lead the team in their communications with key academics, technical and administrative staff in the wider department. You will be responsible for the provision of data required by Ofsted and will be key to ensuring that staff and students on the programme are appraised of the requirements of Ofsted and also provide any information required by the PSRB. In addition you will be the key strategic contact between the ICS, and other employer organisations and the University’s Enterprise and Business Development Unit.
Skills and experience required
You will be an experienced academic leader, preferably with experience in leading nursing degree apprenticeship provision. With a sound knowledge of Higher Education provision and the requirements of external bodies and organisations in relation to apprenticeships, you will be able to advise on, lead and respond to the changing apprenticeship agenda, and the needs of employers, whist upholding academic standards and enhancing the experience of students on the programme. See the Job Description and Person Specification for more information.
Qualifications required
You will have a Masters Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject and hold a recognised teaching qualification. You will have responsibility for signing off successful graduates for entry on to the NMC register, and therefore you will have current live registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
